EBHI Programs

Evidence-based Health Intervention

Evidence-based Health Intervention (EBHI) programs were created by the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region, in response to changing health care trends, to deliver community-based health and wellness services in innovative new ways rooted in a common commitment to preventing and combating chronic disease. Anyone who visits the Y can take advantage of different programs that help our community become healthier and have a higher quality of life.

We currently offer the Blood Pressure Program, LIVESTRONG® at the Y, Moving For Better Balance, and Parkinson's Exercise Program. We are looking to bring the Aging Mastery Program, Healthy Weight and Your Child, and Pedaling For Parkinson's to the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region soon! To learn more about these programs, explore the descriptions below!

FREE (Grant Funded) Classes

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a 12-week program to help you ease back into fitness and maintain confidence. As a cancer survivor, you know the tremendous toll the disease and its treatment can take on your spirit, mind and body. Our program staff have specialized training, allowing them to work with cancer survivors and understand your unique physical needs and safely address any concerns. Throughout the program, participants will improve their cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and balance.

Moving for Better Balance

Moving For Better Balance is a 12-week evidence-based fall prevention program designed to help participants improve their balance, flexibility, mobility, as well as increase their confidence in doing everyday activities. The program utilizes the principles and movements of Tai Chi. The entire class can be done in a chair!

Besides being played for fun or competition, table tennis can be of great support to people experiencing cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and ADHD.

Blood Pressure Program

The YMCA’s Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program is an evidence-based program that assists and guides adults with hypertension. This four-month program features personalized support as you develop the habit of monitoring your blood pressure, tips for maintaining your cardiovascular endurance, muscular health, and nutrition education for better blood pressure management.

Parkinson's Exercise Program

The Y is partnering with Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!) to create a comprehensive, neuroplasticity-principled program that integrates the latest exercise and wellness research called the Parkinson's Exercise Program (PEP). PEP provides a supportive exercise environment to optimize improvement in gait, balance, tremor, flexibility, grip strength, and motor coordination. Exercise has proven to be a key component with your medications, to help increase quality of life. With the Parkinsons Foundation sponsorship, we are able to offer this program at a minimal cost!
