Evidence-based Health Intervention (EBHI) programs were created by the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region, in response to changing health care trends, to deliver community-based health and wellness services in innovative new ways rooted in a common commitment to preventing and combating chronic disease. Anyone who visits the Y can take advantage of different programs that help our community become healthier and have a higher quality of life.
We offer the Aging Mastery Program, Blood Pressure Program, Healthy Weight and Your Child, LIVESTRONG® at the Y, and Parkinson's Exercise Program. To learn more about these programs, explore the descriptions below!
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a 12-week program to help you ease back into fitness and maintain confidence. As a cancer survivor, you know the tremendous toll the disease and its treatment can take on your spirit, mind and body. Our program staff are specially trained to work with cancer survivors and patients and are exercise experts who understand your unique physical needs and concerns and help you address them safely.
Moving for Better Balance is a 12-week fall prevention program using the principles and movements of Tai Chi designed to help adults 60 years and older improve their balance and increase their confidence in doing everyday activities. The entire class can be done in a chair!
The Blood Pressure Program helps adults with hypertension lower and manage their blood pressure. This two-month program focuses on regulated monitoring of one’s blood pressure using proper measuring techniques, individualized support and nutrition education for better blood pressure management.
Healthy Weight and Your Child is a three-month evidence-based program for children with obesity. The program empowers children ages 7 to 13, with the support of their families, to reach a healthy weight and live a healthier lifestyle. The program includes a Family Information Session followed by sessions delivered over three months.
The Y is partnering with Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!) to create a comprehensive, neuroplasticity-principled program that integrates the latest exercise and wellness research called the Parkinson's Exercise Program (PEP). PEP provides a supportive exercise environment to optimize brain recovery and repair. We utilize exercise as medicine to increase your quality of life so that you can get better and stay better.
