Imagine. Invent. Inspire.

Imagine where we can go.
Invent new ways to engage.
Inspire the younger generation.

The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region’s Before & After School Child Care program expands learning beyond the classroom. Children are celebrated for their uniqueness and provided with multiple opportunities for growth and development through a variety of activities.

Children are natural-born engineers, who tend to be fascinated by building things and taking things apart to see how they work. Our goal is to expand on their learning by emphasizing the engineering design process which is a methodical approach to problem seeking and encourages children to start by asking a question, imagine the possibilities, plan a course of action, execute the plan and then brainstorm how to improve.

Though often affiliated with just science and math, the engineering design process can be applied to meet a variety of child interests. The following 9 exploratory components will be integrated into the program throughout the school year: 21st Century Skills, the Arts, College and Career Readiness, Family and Parent Engagement, Global Learning and Inclusion, Health and Wellness, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development and Service Learning. Homework assistance, snack and physical activity are provided daily.

We aim to create an inclusive environment at each of our sites that supports self-confidence, encourages creativity, emphasizes team work and develops future leaders.

In this current situation, here is what we are planning to do to protect your family:

More frequent and thorough cleaning/disinfecting inside and outside of program hours. Sign-in and sign-out will be done outside the building, and by a staff member to reduce the amount of people in the building and touching the sign-in tablet. Please stay in your car! Heightened alert for symptoms and a more stringent sick policy to avoid having sick children, or children with potential contagious symptoms in the program. Increased frequency of hand-washing for staff and children throughout the day. Staff are required to wear masks throughout the day. **More policies and procedures will be put into place as we learn more information regarding specific school policies.**

Adventure Days - Days away from school

On the weekdays your child is not in school, they are welcome to join us at a local YMCA branch! These days away from school will be filled with day-camp-like activities, crafts, STEM, team building and more. Programming will be offered at nearby YMCA locations.  Due to inconsistencies in school district closures, we may have to cancel programming due to low enrollment.
