Teen Leadership Programs

Summer 2020 Camp Update: It is with a heavy heart that we share that we have made the difficult decision to cancel all of our sessions of overnight camp at YMCA Camp Shady Brook for the summer of 2020. The safety and health of our campers and our entire camp community is, and always has been, our first priority. To learn more, please visit ppymca.org/summer2020

Leadership Development Program

Rising freshmen & sophomores, two weeks

This two-week program guides teens in the fundamentals of leadership. Participation in the LDP allows campers to take on more responsibilities at camp and helps each individual grow into a confident leader and team player. Previous summers at Camp Shady Brook are not a prerequisite.

YMCA Member $1290 per session
Nonmember $1375 per session

Counselor-in-Training Program

Rising juniors and seniors, four weeks

We’re proud that many of our campers eventually want to come back to Camp Shady Brook in a different capacity – as leaders for the next generation. The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is a powerful and amazing leadership development program for high school students. Teens learn how to become exceptional leaders at camp with skill-building opportunities in leadership, child development, safety, relationship building, character development and program skills critical for leaders at Camp Shady Brook. Through observation, mentoring and hands-on work, teens gain knowledge and skills that equip them to be leaders at Camp Shady Brook, with children and within team environments. In addition, CITs will have the opportunity to learn skill sets in a specific area at camp: the barn, ropes course or kitchen. Previous summers at Camp Shady Brook are not a prerequisite for the CIT program.

YMCA Member $1840 per session
Nonmember $1980 per session
