Y Lab

The Southeast YMCA is fortunate to house one of 100+ Y Lab in the world. The Y Lab provides a creative and safe after-school learning environment where young people from under-served communities work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop skills and build confidence in themselves through the use of technology.

Mentors play an important role in each Y Lab, helping to support, inspire and engage youth. Mentors are available to answer questions and support the exploration and learning of Clubhouse Members. For example, Mentors help youth create webpages, make their own animations, make videos, help conduct a web search, compose music, and much, much more. Mentors act as guides, helping youth with their explorations, introducing new project ideas and technologies, as well as serving as role models.

Mentors are professionals and students in art, music, engineering, education, and a variety of other fields. No experience is necessary, just an interest in learning and working with young people and/or providing technical support a few hours each week...all while having fun!

Mentors typically volunteer 2 hours, 1 day per week for a period of 6 months. Contact the Y Lab for opportunities at 719.622.3574
