Welte Teen L.I.F.E. Program

Learning Intended for Future Excellency

The Welte Teen L.I.F.E Program supports youth 14-19 years old in the areas of academic skills, college readiness, and career exploration, essential life skills, leadership development, and positive self-identification and development.

This program is identified as a 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant through Colorado Department of Education. We are located in Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 at the Welte Education Center.

21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Program

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Program is a competitive grant program that supports the creation and expansion of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment and family engagement opportunities to students attending low-performing schools across the state. Services focus on helping children succeed academically by:

  1. Providing opportunities for academic enrichment, including tutoring services and homework help, to help students meet state and local academic standards.
  2. Offering students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities, such as but not limited to, service learning, music, financial literacy program, environmental literacy programs, 21st-century learning skills, careers pathways and college readiness, and mentorship.
  3. Offer families of students served by community learning centers opportunities for active and meaningful engagement in their children's education, including opportunities for literacy and related educational development.

Our of School/Expanded Learning Time

Traditional 21st Century Community Learning Centers are required to provide students with a minimum of 12-14 hours of out-of-school time programming per week, for at least 35 weeks during the school year. In addition, centers must conduct family engagement programming and provide enrichment programming during the summer.

With a focus on youth development, wellness and injury prevention, the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region and Children’s Hospital Colorado partner to strengthen our community and help kids learn, grow and thrive.
