YMCA Peak Vista

Mindfulness and Stress Reduction

Program Overview

Your program is modeled after Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), a method of using a combination of meditation and yoga to create awareness and reduce stress. MBSR is based on the ancient practice of mindfulness, which involves waking up, being fully alive, and being present for the richness of each moment of our lives. You will learn to access and cultivate your natural capacity to actively engage in caring for yourself and find greater balance, ease and peace of mind

Benefits of Mindfulness

The program has been scientifically shown to be effective in helping various conditions including anxiety, depression, mood fluctuations, sleep disturbances, chronic illness and pain, among others.

During the course you may also notice:

- Increased awareness and concentration
- A quieter mind and sense of well-being
- New ways to cope more effectively with life's struggles
- Better self-care habits; mentally, physically and emotionally
- Improved emotion regulation
- Better mood, positively impacting personal and professional relationships
- Enhanced experience of feeling connected to those around you

Your life is the curriculum. What you learn in the "classroom" translates to your relationships at work and home. The mindfulness practices are effective tools in managing life stress in a more skillful, adaptive way.

Each class we will learn different forms of mindfulness practices:
