Summer 2020 Update

Good afternoon Camper Families,

We hope you and your families remain in good health during this challenging time. We would like to update everyone regarding our summer plans.

Over the past months, we have been listening intently to the guidelines national, state and local health officials have made for camps like ours. The state of Colorado recently made the decision to cancel all overnight camps through June.

With our camp sessions cancelled through June, and no way to know what the rest of the summer will look like, it is with a heavy heart that we share that we have made the difficult decision to cancel all of our sessions of overnight camp at YMCA Camp Shady Brook for the summer of 2020.

The safety and health of our campers and our entire camp community is, and always has been, our first priority. The latest guidelines from the federal government, the CDC, and our own state government have made it clear that to bring campers and staff into a community based on social interaction and group living would have to be so regulated that it could not truly capture the magic of a traditional summer at Camp Shady Brook.

We know this is heartbreaking news. We want you to know that this decision was not made lightly, and we share your disappointment. None of us ever imagined we would see a summer without Camp Shady Brook.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience that this will cause and will do whatever we can to help the transition. We are offering all of our summer 2020 camp families priority registration for the 2021 summer camp season, and at your 2020 summer camp rates.

But we also need your help. As a nonprofit organization, these cancellations will have a significant impact on our operations moving forward. We are asking our CSB families to consider donating all or a portion of their registration fees to Camp Shady Brook. 100% of your donation will go toward supporting Camp Shady Brook’s ongoing operations during this difficult time and will ensure campers can enjoy Camp Shady Brook this summer and for generations to come. We understand the individual needs of those reading this letter, and respect whatever decision each of you makes based on your personal circumstance.

To donate, please reach out to [email protected] with your name and the amount you’d like to contribute. Your gift to Camp Shady Brook is tax-deductible and is also eligible for the Colorado Child Care Contribution tax credit, a credit on your state income taxes for 50% of your total contribution.  If you just need us to refund your fees paid to date, let us know and we will refund you 100%.

If you have time, please take this brief five-question survey to let us know if you would be interested in a YMCA Camp Shady Brook day camp option:

Thank you for your patience, encouragement and support as we make decisions throughout this challenging time. If you have questions or concerns, please let us know. In the meantime, we hope you stay healthy and safe, and we hope to see you for summer 2021.
