Air Force Athletics Announces Partnership with YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region

Aug 10, 2017

Colorado Springs, CO - Air Force Academy Athletic Corporation (AFAAC) announced today a partnership with the YMCA of Pikes Peak Region for the 2017-18 sports season.

The partnership will provide children enrolled in Y Youth Sports Programs the opportunity to explore the excitement of recreational and competitive sports, connect with positive role models and gain confidence by playing as YMCA Junior Falcons in the upcoming sports season.

“This partnership with the Y will reinforce our mission of giving back while growing the Air Force athletic presence within the community,” said Dr. Nancy Hixson, AFAAC chief executive officer.

Children and families will receive discounted tickets to local games, the chance to participate in scrimmages during half time, and invitations to sports clinics and family outings at the Academy, as well as around the Front Range.

“The Y is a starting point for kids to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. Both Air Force Athletics and the Y are national leaders in our industries, lending unique opportunities to impact kids as athletes and help them develop good sportsmanship,” said Boyd Williams, YMCA president and CEO.

The partnership will launch this fall with initiatives for Air Force football and volleyball and will continue through the spring of 2018 with the Air Force basketball and hockey programs. The fall promotions are listed below:

AF Football Season:
YMCA Day at Air Force football will be held at the home game versus San Diego State on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m. MT. The YMCA will be holding a pregame tailgate to thank and recognize volunteers of the YMCA Sports program.
